Letter A — The Alphabet's Grand Opening
Every reading journey starts with A, and this free printable Letter A tracing worksheet gives children aged 3+ focused practice with both uppercase A and lowercase a. Capital A is a tent shape built from two diagonal strokes and a horizontal crossbar — one of the more complex uppercase letters. Lowercase a uses a counterclockwise circle followed by a downstroke. Together, they teach two fundamentally different motor patterns on a single page.
Why A Deserves Its Own Worksheet
Uppercase A is one of the few letters built entirely from diagonal lines, making it an excellent test of angled stroke control. Lowercase a contains the oval shape that reappears in d, g, and q — mastering a's oval early prevents issues with those related letters later. The dramatic visual difference between A and a also teaches children that letters can look completely different while representing the same sound.
